Church Counts On You, Archbishop Tells Youth

ROXAS City– Capiz Archbishop Jose Advincula on Tuesday opened a gathering of young people by encouraging them to lead the Church’s future. Presiding over a Mass in the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, he told the more than 1,100 participants of the 10th Regional Youth Day (RYD) that they are the present and the future of the Church. “As young citizens, you are the bearers of hope for our country. But in particular, the future of our Church lies on you,” Advincula said. Addressing the youth from the archdioceses of Capiz and Jaro; and the dioceses of Bacolod, Kabankalan, Kalibo, Romblon, San Carlos and San Jose de Antique, he noted that the continuity of Christ’s mission is laid on their shoulders. “The Church counts on you. New Baguio bishop looks forward to ‘shepherding flock’

MANILA, Oct. 3, 2016 — Bishop-elect Victor Bendico will be making some adjustments in the Baguio diocese but says he is looking forward to his new mission. “I am looking forward to serving the people of Baguio and that we will be able to work hand in hand,” said the priest. The Roxas City-born monsignor said his appointment as Baguio bishop was a “big surprise”, saying it was with “great humility” and a “deep sense of unworthiness” that he accepted his new role. A priest of the Archdiocese of Capiz for 32 years, the bishop-elect said he is aware that many challenges await him. At 56, Bendico said he had been to Baguio, located in the mountainous province of Benguet, for only about 6 times so he is not familiar with the place, language, and the culture. “So this is really a big challenge on my part,” he said. Community Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (CMEAL)

Community Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (CMEAL) officers of the 10 barangays attended the two-day activity on Accountability sessions and Complaint mechanisms and designing of common monitoring tools held at CCTN studio, Archbishop’s Residence Compound, Lawaan, Roxas City, August 25-26. NASSA/Caritas Philippines’ MEAL Manager Jeanie Curiano provided talks on Accountability participation, information-sharing and receiving/handling feedbacks and complaints. Topics on Gender and Disability were also discussed that aims to promote awareness to issues relating to gender sensitivity and disability, specifically how these interact with humanitarian programming. With the help of former CASAC MEAL officer Sharmaine Durias, the team were able to identify common problems relating to project interventions and came up with a detailed plan on how to resolve and cater these issues. DSAC-Kalibo, CASAC Together For An Exchange Learning

Roxas City- ‘Learning while sharing,’ the two social action centers had to say in a short meeting held at CCTN studio, Barangay Lawaan, April 27. This was after the visit of Diocesan Social Action Center of Kalibo, Aklan to Capiz Archdiocesan Social Action Center in the quest of having a quality and up to date reporting of the projects funded by Caritas Italiana. Stefania Cataneo, Caritas Italiana’s Representative to the Philippines presented the content, process and schedule of reporting specifically on the livelihood project. CASAC celebrates World Water Day

Dumarao, Capiz- This year’s World Water Day celebration marked the blessing of "Bito" (Water Source), one of the Capiz Archdiocesan Social Action Center (CASAC) projects in Barangay Janguslob, March 22. CASAC Director Rev. Fr. Mark Q. Granflor led the benediction of the said spring, a project under Water Sanitation and Hygiene sector of ‪#‎REACHPhilippines‬ Program. It was attended by the community together with Barangay Water and Sanitation Association (BAWASA). In line with the celebration, CASAC WASH team conducted a short program regarding the importance of water in their community and how to maintain the Water Piped System Project for the betterment of every residents living therein. CASAC wants the community to realize the sacrifices everyone has contributed in order to make the project possible.
